Allentown's NIZ Employment Training Program

"The program provided eight hours of pre-employment training to prepare them to work in the upscale restaurants, hotels and retailers opening in the NIZ.... Monthly sessions are planned in July, August and September... The first three sessions are being partially funded by The City Center Initiative NPP. Classes will cost $35."

My Comments About The Article Above
This must mean these "upscale" joints downtown are a lot fancier then those other dives outside of Allentown. It must be so because these other places hired and trained people themselves w/o asking upfront money before they'd consider hiring them.

Call me old fashioned but I always thought training for entry level part time or on-call jobs was the employer's responsibility. I disagree a potential bottom level employee should ever have to fork over money before being considered for an interview. I could understand if these were for skilled or management jobs. However, cleaning toilets, serving food and other various bottom of the ladder jobs... that's something else entirely.

It's rather demeaning don't you think?
