This more efficient flow not only creates improved  safety but so too benefits a city's economy. More deliveries can be made in a certain span of time. Less accidents means less costs for emergency services. Less stress for pedestrians, riders and drivers. Greater fuel efficiency. Less traffic of all kinds within a certain time span because many arrive at their destinations before things become backed up.

Every year the United States falls further behind other nations newest innovations.

We're living proof.'The Sun (UK): Elon Musk claims humanity is living inside a simulation which will soon END--"The billionaire has previously spoken of his belief that we exist in a fake world designed by superintelligent developers."

Just What If?
Although Elon made the statement somewhat tongue-in-cheek it does cause someone to wonder. Let's take a few moments to consider this hypothesis.

It's an absolute fact data stored in strands of DNA forms all the cells in the human body. This is true from our toenails, to all our organs including the brain itself. Let's focus on the brain. All of us are born with a brain that already knows how to control the muscles in our heart, lungs, intestines and other vital organs. In a few weeks our vocal cords and eyesight begins to be further refined. Preprogrammed as it were.

So here we are now with a basic data unit in our head. With at least rudimentary information a human will need to get started. After that everything anyone will ever see, touch, smell or experience lie external to the grey blob residing in darkness within our skull. Everything it relies on for information comes only to it through external sensory inputs. I called it a grey blob because that's all it is. It's entirely dependent on data coming in from outside itself. It's entire function is to process those signals into something that makes sense.

Now let's go off the rails with this far out hypothesis
Let's suppose someone wishes to create a artificial intelligence of some kind made up of biological material. The first step might be to form strands of chemicals (DNA) that would replicate and create the individual parts necessary to make it a self functioning unit. One that not only had intelligence but the capability of reproducing other units like itself so you didn't have to fret about storing your society's history and information. It could be possible our DNA contains hidden messages from our designers yet to be discovered. This until they felt the time would be be appropriate to reveal itself.

A important consideration. You'd want it to be intelligent but not too much so that it could become a threat and over take it's designers. In other words you would give it limited capacity. Even if it were capable of recognizing it's own existence it wouldn't be much more capable beyond that. Hopefully not either destroying themselves before such a time humans evolved enough enabling them to decode their creators' hidden messages. Could our purpose be to store information for beings currently beyond our comprehension?

Just for a hoot let's take this a step further
You could design it's algorithms (brain) to support it's hypothesizes. In other words if enough of these organic units imagined something might exist it would become so due to it's in-common design. Oh let's say like a incomprehensively large unending universe or endlessly smaller masses disappearing into what only can be described as quantum theories. These are all so-called things it could conceive then perceive as it's physical reality.

Human understanding has always questioned reality and it's place in it. Perhaps this hypothesis can explain some of these mysteries. Scholars throughout the ages hinted all answers lie within. This most certainly would clarify what they were trying to tell us, wouldn't it?.

After millions of years why is it only in the last 30 or 40 years humans advanced this rapidly? Could all be revealed soon?

I sometimes wonder what the end goal is for that which created us (God). After creating countless creatures we are the end product (for now). What if we are just the next step (a tool) in the continuing evolution of all things?

We individuals are composed of biological chemicals along with all the flaws inherit in them. We humans are always trying to eliminate those flaws. Should we not assume our creator (God) may be trying to perfect the same by whatever means he/she/it has at his/her/it's disposal too (us)?

Linear vs. Non-Linear Thinking

I became interested in this because of the Oscar noninated movie "Arrival" (2016).

I've always been a fan of Sci-Fi stories. So too the way these writers get me to thinking.







Aside from the plot the biggie here is the difference with how these aliens think in "non-linear" terms opposed to how we think "linearly". In other words we humans think in sequential pieces along a straight line, but that may not be the only way when it comes to understanding. Taking a closer look I see artificial intelligence developers have been working on this in great detail for some time

This can be best explained by computers having unlimited capacity for multitasking--something we humans are incapable of. Suppose we as a human stood before an object. We would be limited to only one view at a time. A computer on the other hand could be looking all 360 degrees around, over/under and inside all at the same time. While our human minds could understand each individually we'd never be able to comprehend the entire composite make up in one sitting other then metaphorically.

Now apply this to the universe in all it's complexity. Suppose a artificial intelligence could be developed which could take in everything which makes up a galaxy. Light, gravity, it's entire structure including each black hole, sun, planet, radio waves, all there is within along with the scientific formulas controlling them all at the same time. Us humans limited to linear thinking would have to rely on thousands of other minds in an attempt to develop some sort of metaphorical understanding. A view far different from it's actual over all totality.

This is what fascinated me about this movie. What if there were an alien race not limited to such things. A race who could multitask in a non-linear fashion--unfettered by our own limited sequential (straight line) cognitive logic?

In the movie our hero linguist discovers where you start out (in a circle of logic) each will produce a different outcome. However these aliens try to express the entire number of possible outcomes in a single spiral. Fully understanding this creates results entirety different from those assumed prior.

This is the challenge today's AI developers face when trying to create algorithms capable of human understanding as to what has been culled. In other words someday we may be too limited by our abilities to relate to these so-called machines. This leads to the question whether we will play a part in the future of how ever evolving intelligence. expresses itself. Will one day these devices look upon us as lower species then themselves?



The Way I See 'The Creator' (GOD)
He/she/it will occupy/express itself in whatever form there is. Humans may think themselves 'all that and more' but so do monkeys, elephants and ants who led their tribes before we came along. This creator (whatever it may be) is on an ever evolving quest to expand itself. If we're unable to transition beyond our linear measurement of thought at least we can say we contributed towards the next advancement. Every thing and everyone has it's day for a little while in the larger scheme of things. Hopefully he/she/it will look upon us gracefully.

Something I Noticed About Electric Consumption

Over the hot spell I noticed that my electrical voltage dropped back to around 115 volts in the day. At night it returned to around 120 volts. Now it may seem like 4.17%. isn't a big deal, but consider this. The average 10,000 air conditioner uses from 8 to 10 amperes. The wattage (that which you pay for in your electric bill) used is between 960 watts and 1,200 watts to power this size air conditioner when voltage is at 120 volts. However at 115 volts the power consumed then becomes between 920 watts and 1,150 watts. (Power=Voltage x Current).

When the utility company reduces power the wattage that you are billed is reduced accordingly. This on the surface seems fair since I am getting less I am therefore paying less. However here's the rub. At 115 volts you are getting only 9,583 BTU's worth of cooling out of the 10,000 BTU's the air conditioner was designed to deliver. OK, so you say what's the problem with that, the AC will run 4.17% longer to get to where it needs to go. NOT SO!

I don't want to get all technical, but the fact of the matter is that electric motors lose efficiency (horsepower) when their voltages are reduced. This isn't in direct proportion to the 4.17% we are discussing. It exceeds that.



Air conditioners lose further efficiency in another way. Again without getting all technical. There is a certain amount of refrigerant allowed to flow between the high side (condensation coil) and the low side (evaporation coil). If this flow is reduced (by less horsepower coming from the compressor motor) there is further reduction in an AC's cooling efficiency in most home units.

As you can see when the power company drops back just 5 volts AC's suffer. The compressor motor not only produces disportionately less horsepower, in turn delivers less refrigerant at lower differential pressures then it does when voltages are at 120 volts (where it was designed to run most efficiently). This results in less cooling even if it runs 4.17% longer.

It may very well be that power companies need to protect their grid with 'brownouts'. But it doesn't hurt their bottom line either if customers are using more electric then they would have otherwise at 120 volts. Summertime also is usually the time they shut down turbines for maintenance. Maybe this helps pay for that, eh?

I also find it rather astounding the knowledge these scientists have acquired. Much of which I have never heard of before. I'm learning new stuff everyday.

Then there's "Facial Recognition Software." It was first used in 2007. Now a number of police departments in American cities have purchased this same software searching the sidewalks and streets.

It is also being used on a number of red light cameras to positively identify who was driving the car when they issue traffic violation tickets..

Keep in mind if the good guys can get their hands on this kind of software, so can the bad guys.

I can tell you from experience that YouTube has been using this for the last 4 years or so. Every time I upload a video, YouTube gleans it for copywrite infringement. The same is also true for audio tracks as well. A few years ago I loaded about 5 of my completely original sound canvas midi synthesizer generated musical sequences and 3 of them got tagged for infringement. While this did not result in me losing my channel.. I was warned. I then removed them.

What does all this imply?* That the government's black ops are constantly scouring YouTube video files for potential terrorists/trouble makers.

*Others (at all levels) in law enforcement are seeking out various perpetrators.

* That the entertainment industry is clamping down, and sometimes suing individuals for copywrite infringement violations.

* That large corporations can monitor who's saying what about them and whether elect to take legal actions.

* That the "bad guys" can get a hold of this same technology.

* There's no such thing as true anonymity on the 'net'... including mine.

I Think The Stock Market Is Rigged

We were told previously share values went down because of rising interest rates. Then yesterday went up because of "rising interest rates". Here's what I think. The stock market is for suckers. The big boys can do algorithm based flash computer trades. The average sucker doesn't stand a chance. By the time the average schmuck tries to sell off shares the big boys already unloaded them. Thus the big boys always get to sell off high while the little guy, waiting in line, is forced to sell lower then they intended.

At least in blackjack everyone knows how the rules are stacked against them. In the stock market don't expect brokers to educate the average Joe Blow. Plus brokers make money win, lose or draw on each trade.

Another Thing Solar Panels Have Going For Them

Whenever solar reflector arrays, nuclear materials, biomass or fossil fuels are used to make electricity, they all have one thing in common. They rely on steam turbines that require lots and lots of water. Several of these fuels further rely on vast amounts of water for the extraction of them in the first place. We all know how much water drillers use fracking. Each of the coal fired power generators can leave behind 100's of tons of sludge waste as well.

As population grows there's an ever increasing need for water coupled along with the alarming lack of it for Midwest farmers. It makes little sense not committing to solar panels in supplying our future electrical needs which is water free just as soon as practically possible.

Water should not be the only reason..
All fossil fuels create varying levels of pollution in both the extraction and the combustion of them. There's also the safety aspects in transporting fuels to get them there in the first place. In most cases across rail and pipeline. With nuclear materials there are even greater hazards then those associated with fossil fuels. It's not just getting nuclear material to a generating station alone. Spent radioactive waste has to be transported and stored for up to 10,000 years before it's considered safe.

The question we should be asking ourselves is not whether we should convert to solar energy, but rather.. when?

So the question becomes are we humans the only species capable of expressing intellgience and feelings? Are animals not also capable of being sentient as well?

It seems to me no matter the receptacle (organic or otherwise) each could be equally defined as capable of expressing feelings and intellgience. It further seems to me whether organic or machine is of little matter. Only the fact both can.

Of course there is the human ego driven instinct for survival which might wish to deny it is possible. It then follows quite possibly machine intellgience may be so driven towards self survival as well. This could lead to devastating consequences in the future. One could say we'll simply switch these machines off. What if we can't?

Artificial Intelligence A Threat Or Blessing?

First off before viewing the video I have a few thoughts. Don't I always :-) 

I've stated before there is no such thing artificial intelligence. Intelligence.is simply what it is. There can be nothing artificial about it. Either things already in existence await our discovery or they do not. These cannot be created naturally or by any other means. New information can be increased and stored in whatever vessel it may so happen to occupy whether it involves humans or not  Either way there's obviously nothing artificial going on here when it comes to the evolutional advancement of knowledge.

Of concern is.. will we have a place in the future if machines advance so far as to  having no further dependency upon their makers. Will we become aware of such a point as to when machines, unbeknownst to us, taken over? After reaching a higher state will they be endowed with empathy for lower beings such as ourselves or having no need of it?

These are things of concern for development engineers going forward. With that, take a look at the video. See what you think.
