Life's One Great Big Illusion

Repost From 2015

This Man Made $2.3 Billion on Monday
by Tom Metcalf | Bloomberg Business
"Amancio Ortega added $2.3 billion to his fortune on Monday... The Spanish billionaire's gain was $500 million more than the combined increase recorded by everyone else among the world's 10 richest people"

My Comments About The Article Above
Life is one big imaginary board game.

How else could anyone explain this?

There is no way in hell anyone could work so hard as to deserve this kind of wealth.

Subcontracting GOTTEN WAY OUT HAND

Repost From 2016

In today's world."outsourcing" has become the name of the game.* Most newspapers don't deliver their own news print.
* Large companies no longer staff their own call centers.
* Some phone providers don't own a single wire or tower.
* Some cable companies' employ no installers or linemen
* Colleges use of adjunct professors (paid 1/4) are on a sharp rise.
* Most computer software designers are forced to become "freelancers".
* Some big name delivery drivers don't work for the name on their purchased truck.
* Vital Government services.
* The list goes on and on and on

Whether the words used are freelancing or outsourcing both mean the same thing. Companies no longer see themselves responsible for providing workers with a means for a steady income Nor necessarily for the quality work performed by the jobber they sent either. Chances are whatever goods or services a unsatisfied customer complains about will be told to take it up with the jobber the seller outsourced with.

This post was inspired when I came across this bit of information I wasn't aware of. According to THIS NEWS STORY (WFMZ) a car hit a pole knocking down wires. The piece goes on to say, "First responders and residents soon learned from a PPL representative on scene that PPL Electric Utilities just enacted new guidelines in which the company no longer responds to nor repairs downed lines... Instead, the company uses subcontractors to do repairs." << YOU SAY WHAT!

Broken Down Into Pieces
Today consumers can purchase generated electric separately from a handful of companies that don't know even what a generator looks like. Remember when PPL did it all. They owned mines, generators, buildings and employed all the workers needed (linemen included). If it weren't for PPL there wouldn't be a Lake Wallenpaupack. Over the years they (like other utilities) have split up the business into several divisions. Some which were sold off, including the lake. It was taken over by 'Talen Energy' on June 1, 2015. Then in order to comply with regulations Talen announced in the fall it would sell it to yet another energy company listed in Bermuda. They just took over ownership on April 1, 2016.

It's All A Facade
Even I could open a phone company by scraping some of the money off the top I wouldn't need to know a damn thing. I could hire an accountant, sales person, contract with a wholesale communications provider, hang a shingle outside and I'm good to go. The same way I could start doing online sales. Take an order, sign with a credit provider, some firm in China (who'll send the orders out) and again I'm good to go. Neither which would be much different then what these investor formed companies are doing these days.

What we have here is overhead receiving the rewards for the work borne on those who are skilled and doing the actual work. Sorry but I liked it better when we did things the other way. In the days workers took pride in representing the company, it's reputation and were actually employed fulltime by them. In return respected and compensated accordingly.

When companies only did one or two things very well.Because they didn't have their eggs scattered in two dozen places, they had to!

The problem today is too few give a crap. Why should they when companies can simply rent people, buildings and offices enabling them to easily pack up and leave. When workers aren't under threat of losing a permanent fulltime job or benefits they never were hired for or had in the first place. Now that's some recipe.

News Flash: It's Cold Out

Repost

No matter whether it's CNN, WFMZ, WPIX, FOX, MSNBC, WPHL, WPVI, WCAU, WTXF, KYW, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC or any other radio, TV station or newspaper they all report over and over again it's cold.

I kinda figured that out on my own.
Not only that but it was dark out too.
     Why aren't they reporting that!!

Every night and day it's the same thing no matter where I turn, for 20 minutes out of the hour we get the weather. Here's something I come to learn over the years, In the Winter it gets cold. Sometimes it even snows. Imagine that!

The reason I turn on the news is to get news... not the weather. Yeah I'm kind of funny that way.

Take your typical newscast. About 10 minutes of each half hour is filled with ads. Another 5 minutes of sports. 5 minutes of puff pieces and at least 5 minutes of weather. That leaves only 5 minutes for actual news. Sometimes even most of those five minutes are eaten up by reporters news celebrities freezing their tooshies off next to a salt pile or along side the snowiest street they come across..

It takes 4 years in college, lots of luck and another 10 years to land a job in a major news market. This cost TV stations a lot of money. May I suggest instead TV producers give a couple of homeless people a camera and a microphone and let them report on the weather. They have far more experience and expertise when it comes to reporting on homeless shelters and street reporting in the Winter anyway. After all they're the real experts when it comes to this, no?

Better yet, maybe the newscasts should be cancelled like the schools and businesses since they obviously don't have intentions of reporting the news in bad weather anyway.

Never mind.
Last night after channel surfing I already cancelled them by turning off the TV and going to bed. It was a better use of my time :-)

Taking Responsibly Not Always Best Policy

Repost From 2014

Truck driver in fatal Route 222 crash told police, 'It's all my fault. I did this,' records say
"... was sent without bail to Lehigh County Prison."
.

COMMENTARY
Believe me when I say there's no stronger advocate for someone taking personal responsibility then I. However when someone's involved in an accident it is not time to make such a statement. It's best to remain with lips sealed until such a time as they have legal representation. Save the honesty and offers of restitution for the court room under advice from an attorney.

No one's saying someone shouldn't clear their conscience and be honest, but that's best left to a time when any such statement won't be able to be used against them to the max.

Let me explain. I was friends with a fella who started out on his destiny to become a lawyer at Temple University Law school. The question was presented, suppose you were sitting at a red light waiting to make a left turn. Someone driving a ratty old pickup without a license comes up behind you and rams into you. Your car is then propelled across the intersection into a double parked private limousine. Who do you sue?

The answer is the limousine.
Why?
Because he's the one most likely to have money.

A lawyer can argue that if the limo wasn't parked illegally in the first place you injuries may never have occurred. The defendant's attorney on the other hand could counter sue arguing if your vehicle's wheels weren't cocked in the limos direction none of this would have happened in the first place. In the end you (the victim) could be found guilty as well as the person who hit you from behind irregardless of what charges were filed by the police when it comes to civil liability claims.

I bring this up because according to the article "Police said the impact pushed the minivan into southbound traffic." Which direction were the wheels pointed on the minivan that might have caused it to veer into southbound traffic?

So no matter how well intended, by stating "It's all my fault", this guy made it nearly impossible for a lawyer to defend him. I am in no way trying to look for a way to get this guy off the hook, but he's made things so much worse for himself then need be. As you see he's been locked up without bail. He could end up owing multimillions dollars in lawsuits, paying for highway cleanup, traffic fines and/or even spend decades behind bars. Quite possibly he won't be able to get commercial motor vehicle insurance ever again either.

I'm sure when this 56 year tractor trailer driver woke up that morning he had no intention of killing someone. He seems to be a honest guy. His honesty will not be rewarded. It would have been so much better for him to 'zip-it' until such a time where it would be more legally appropriate to do so.

I urge anyone who ever gets involved in an accident provide only the minimal details required for police to file their accident report. Save the explanations, apologizes and confessions no matter how compelled or well intended. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Besides all the admissions in the world will not change what happened.

There's nothing barring someone from rendering aide and comfort, but don't necessarily expect that to be a consideration by a jury in a court of law after admitting total responsibility. The sad fact is, no matter how well someone may feel inside about coming clean, it matters little to others when meting out punishment.

Government Can Steal Your Money

Repost

Here's how. Through questionable forfeiture laws. When they do it's up to the accused to prove they didn't commit a crime. Even when they weren't charged with one. It appears the constitution and peoples right to due process no longer matters in today's world.

WFMZ Reports, Developer Proposes Retail, Townhomes On Mauch Chunk Road

WFMZ
"The proposal, known as the Mauch Chunk Road development, calls for a neighborhood and commercial development on 105 acres at 3530 Mauch Chunk Road. The development proposes retail, a gasoline station and restaurants, in addition to townhomes featuring two or three stories with garages."
(This is at the corner of Cedar Crest & Mauch Chunk)

Lehigh Valley Growth. Bah Humbug

I say bah humbug to the explosive development going on throughout the Lehigh Valley. Who needs it. I sure don't.

More people means they need more jobs. More jobs more people. More, more, more of everything means.. Less fertile fields available for planting.
More schools means more taxes.
Less surplus water available.
With more people comes more crime.
With more crime comes more police funding that will be needed.
Increased driver aggravation with bottlenecks and accidents
I could list so many more issues but those would be my top six peeves.

Tracking Regulatory Changes In The Biden Era

brookings.edu
Tracking Regulatory Changes In The Biden Era
"Every day, the federal government enacts impactful policy changes through the executive branch and its agencies. The Brookings Center on Regulation and Markets Regulatory Tracker (“Reg Tracker”) provides background information and status updates on a curated selection of particularly important regulatory changes."

Check out the link above to see how many you agree or disagree with. There are quite a few.

How many of these could be overturned by the outcome of the Supreme Court's ruling on the 'Chevron Doctrine' appeal remains to be seen.

This is in reference to my previous article below.

An Effort To Demolish Regulatory Agencies

I've been listening briefly to the Supreme Court hearing on the 'Chevron Doctrine'. It basically allows government AGENCIES to enact regulations.

What I heard was Neil M. Gorsuch repeatedly interrupt the lawyer representing these agencies on behalf of the government. Almost to the point of argument. Every time the lawyer spoke he interrupted like most conservatives do when someone else is speaking. It's not looking good.

Can you imagine what will happen if the 'Chevron Doctrine' goes away? The government oversight will become powerless. Some are against regulations, but imagine a country without any!

It seems just about every action imaginable ends up with judges making the final calls. Can you imagine what a nightmare it would be if judges ran almost every thing in this country? We're almost there folks. This is getting way out of hand.

I do understand there is a somewhat large group ultra conservatives out there today who'd like to see the government stripped to it's bare bones (including the revenue service). Like a game of Jenga blocks one by one this court is undoing even it's own prior decisions. It may not be long before our system crumbles under these highly partisan members of this supreme court. Add to that a congress who can't even get out of their own way.

Store Looters Not Just A Problem In The U.S.

dailymail.co.uk
Nearly 90 retailers call for crackdown on brazen looters and thieves bringing chaos to our streets
"The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said this summer shoplifting had risen 27 per cent across ten of the largest cities in the UK, with some cities up as much as 68 per cent."

So despite what some people would have you believe the problem doesn't lie alone within the liberal run cities. It's a ongoing problem throughout Europe as well. People really need to knock this partisanship crap off and start working together for solutions. Seems we're so mired in finger pointing nothing is getting resolved. All this bickering is useless. It accomplishes nothing.
