Star Trek Shuttlecraft Is A Rusty Hulk

Who'd a thunk it?
The USS Enterprise's shuttlecraft, Galileo NCC-1701/7, had become a rusting old hulk once again for the second time, but now there's hope for the old girl...



"The team behind the winning bid have promised to restore the shuttlecraft, tour it for the 50th anniversary of Star Trek in 2016, and find a permanent museum home for the prop...

... Auctioneer Brooks E. Ames said: 'The shuttle sold for $70,150. The buyers are a group called - The Galileo Restoration."

The photos you see here were taken back in the early 80's before the first restoration. It's current condition can be seen in the photos HERE at the auction site. The auction was held on June 28, 2012.

The following video shows some of those repairs that were attempted with a second restoration project which was later abandoned.

"After nine months of restoration, the Galileo shuttlecraft — a life-size spaceship prop from the iconic 1960s science fiction TV series — was publicly unveiled last week in a ceremony amid loud cheers from a crowd of "Star Trek" fans and friends on hand to see the ship before its sendoff to its final frontier. It shipped off Space Center Houston, the visitor's center for NASA's Johnson Space Center, on Wednesday."
