'Star Trek': A Forerunner To Today's Technology

Science begins with imagination. Yesterday's fiction has become today's reality.

Remember when Captain Kirk inserted a memory card into the 'Enterprise's' computer. Then think of yesterday's mechanically reliant floppy disk or the latter DVDs, both which already have become so yesterday. In today's world we give no second thoughts when we now insert our 'flash memory cards' into telephones, cameras and computer slots.

Remember when Captain Kirk would use his communicator?
Little did we imagine that everyone would be walking around with smartphones.

Remember when Captain Kirk would talk to his computer system?

How about the "Enterprise's laser weapon system?

In 'Star Trek so too was the 'Holodeck' first imagined.

Today's Star "Tech" (Vancouver, June 2010)

Here's even more Star Trek fantasy that's becoming reality..

The Tricorder

How about them "Borgs"?

Remember when the Captain had to rely on "Sulu" to "plot a course?

We're getting very close to creating Lieutenant Commander "Data".

'EasyPass" toll booths can already can read license plates of those who go through w/o having a valid EasyPass and whereupon drivers are then sent traffic citations. In some cities patrol cars are outfitted with the device as well.

In other cities both here and throughout Europe street cams are being retrofitted with facial recognition software.

When it comes to flying I have no problem with the planes, but them damned airports.. they're something else. They are crowded and security screenings are repulsive. Not to mention getting flight delays or even bumped... I'm waiting for science to come up with the 'transporters'.. yeah that's the ticket!

Then again why risk getting your molecules scrambled?

With the holodeck (virtual reality) or the android women robot technology just over the horizon, why not just stay home?
