Going To College? Better Have a Fat Checkbook!

The Daily Mail listed the top 10 most expensive colleges in the United States. They range from a high of $49,630 down to $46,030. Although some of the information seems a bit outdated. The other thing I discovered is starting tuition figures do not reflect the true costs.

Lafayette College list their tuition starting at $46,590 for the 2015-2016 school year. Add in the least expense housing option, fees and it will cost an estimated $62,090 without meals. Meal plans run from $$2,460 to $5,310 for the unlimited plan.

Muhlenberg College estimates the average student will pay a tuition of $45,875 for the 2015-2016 term. They further estimated with books, supplies, room & board, transportation and the $400 1st year deposit factored in the average student cost would be total $59,605. This does not include meals. They do however list a 210 meal plan for $400.

Last year Lehigh University's total average expenses were listed at $58,835 but included the full meal plan of $5,060 with starting tuition rate listed at $44,500.

Throw in expenses for entertainment, liquor, unexpected fees and toys, party favors other stuff we'd be looking well north of $60,000. This is why I'm somewhat amused when statisticians claim those who go to college are usually the offspring of parents who did also. Although there are exceptions, who the hell else could afford to!
