Obamacare- My Latest Opinions

According to TPM editor Josh Marshall 54% of the voters think the problems with Obamacare can be worked out. He also points out while the latest CNN/ORC International poll shows a total of 58% don't approve, 14% of them don't because it isn't liberal enough!

If one were to listen to who was shouting the loudest we'd all be misled to believe otherwise.

Now word comes down the supreme Court will take up controversial Obamacare provision on contraception. What this boils down to "do companies, not just people and churches, have religious freedom?"

To my way of thinking this could open a Pandora's Box. If companies are granted 'religious freedom', where will this lead us? Can companies then be granted the right to hire only employees of one chosen faith or another? Fire same sex couples, someone committing adultery or failing to observe the Sabbath?

Nowhere in the constitution did the founders have anyone other then individuals in mind. Government can't interfere with religious beliefs. This is guaranteed in the constitution. By the same token they never intended that others should be empowered either. They could have easily written it into the document, but they didn't. Nowhere in the healthcare bill was it written someone was required to use birth control. I don't see this as imposing government's will on any individual. If the supreme court should give companies that right, they've then placed companies rights above those of government. A very dangerous place to be.

An employee is obligated to the place they work while on the clock. What they do on their own time should remain just that. The thing that surprises me the most about these companies who are making an issue of this is how they are ignoring shareholders best interests. Companies exist for one reason only... to make money for they and their shareholders. If 10% or 20% of their employees should unintentionally become pregnant the healthcare costs will increase dramatically for each child covered for possibly 26 years going forward. Seems kind of stupid, no?

FINAL THOUGHTS
Companies accuse the government of telling them what they can do are intending to do the very same thing to their own employees. Imagine their outrage if government were to force one religious belief or another on they. The day companies are granted rights to impose their religious will on others is the day individuals lost theirs. If that day should come, it will be the day we tore up the first amendment. Could others be far behind?
