It's hard to believe but the 2013 MLB baseball season is only about 10 weeks away. So let me be the first to mention a few items that may be of interest.
The first is something quite surprising to many. All of the official balls used by MLB are hand made and assembled in Costa Rica. They have been since 1977.
All the raw materials do come from the United States, but the balls themselves are reshipped back to Florida after being hand stitched by Costa Rican laborers.
How ironic that something so American as baseball relies on foreign labor to supply all the baseballs, don't you think?
Good news is that this is not the case for the bats used in the sport. In fact one of the major manufacturers of the bats is based right here in Pennsylvania.
(80 miles North of Pittsburgh)
Their bats are sold & used in 20 countries
