Cities are coming up short on their budgets and are becoming desperate. I understand that, but really?
Randy Kraft @ WFMZ reports on several increases the City Of Bethlehem is considering.
Increases under consideration...
     Moving Permits- 400% (Fine/Penalty- $100 and/or 30 days in jail)
     Property Taxes- 6.2%
     Venders Event Annual Fee- 74.25%
Amusement Ticket Tax- 33% or 66%
     Pool Season Pass- 11%
     Police Documentation Fee- 50%
     Tax Certification Fee- 50%
This may seem like only a drop in the bucket. A couple of bucks here and a couple bucks there, but as we see more and more government (everywhere at every level) starting to increase with these kind of percentages things are starting to really add up.
I can understand coming from Bethlehem's point of view the need for moving permits. However do we really want to turn ordinary people into criminals potentially doing jail time?
Seems a bit totalitarian to me.
