I Predict Colbert's "The Late Show" Won't Last

All one has to do is look at the lineup for 09/21-25/2015. They include Ted Cruz, Donald Trump; U.S. Secretary of Energy Dr. Ernest Moniz, Activist Maria Shriver along with other misc. guests. With that lineup it would be better suited for CNN's new entertainment like format.

Occasionally Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, David Letterman and others would take a snipe in the their opening dialogue. Even one or two political or serious guests a month. In my belief very few people give a rat's patootie having this many eating up air time in one week. Most people are just looking for silly entertainment. This show misses the mark in my opinion.

The ratings seem to back me up. Already on night #2 Jimmy Fallon beat Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show'. "Colbert’s show slipped from opening night’s 1.38 rating to a 0.77. Fallon, meanwhile grew from a 0.88 rating to 1.24.".

'Variety' also reported, Jimmy Fallon Reclaims Late-Night Crown-- “The Tonight Show” averaged 4.06 million viewers on Wednesday and a 1.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. “The Late Show” delivered 3.66 million viewers and a 0.8 in adults 18-49. That compared to 6.6 million viewers for Tuesday’s debut."

I'm not surprised. I'd rather watch Fallon's crazy antics and "The Roots" perform over anything Cruz, Shriver or the Secretary Of Energy will say to Colbert next week.

I remember a time when the most highly popular comedy shows like those of Jack Benny, Lucy, Carol Burnette, Jackie Gleason, Dean Martin and a whole host of others were entirely separate from what was going on elsewhere in the world. The key to their success was expanding on the humor most people could relate to going on in their daily lives.

If Steve Colbert is intending to make 'The Late Show' into a spin off his 'Comedy Central' "Colbert Report" for CBS I don't see it happening. There are far more talented hosts and fun late might alternatives to watch....

Colbert Will have to do a lot better then he's done so far!
