Which made me wonder how Allentown's homeless are making out in this horrible snow storm?
All the homeless shelters we've been focused on in Allentown only offer shelter in the overnight hours. Where are they supposed to go today in the daylight hours? All the malls and businesses the homeless might have hung out in to get warm are closed.
The only place I know of is down at St. Paul's church who has gone way above and beyond. I've not spoken with Rev. Richard Baumann in several years, but one thing I know... here is a man who could have retired years ago or ignored those who came inside seeking refuge in the pews. Instead Rev. Baumann has become nearly the single most important person in Allentown for those who seek unconditional refuge.
While "Allentown City Council grapples with how to help homeless" Rev. Baumann of St. Paul's church is not just sitting around 'talking the talk', but is 'walking the walk'.
For those not familiar with St. Paul's church, it's not only one of the last of the grand churches left in Allentown, but is also one of the least funded. It may not have the largest budget, but it definitely is the largest supporter of not only the homeless, but the Hispanic population downtown throughout the year. I'm sure Rev. Baumann would never admit to it, but without his determined efforts and dedication I doubt St. Paul's would still exist. Words can't express the appreciation and respect I have for the man.

WFMZ is reporting, "A homeless shelter that can accommodate at least 50 people will open in the middle of Allentown on Nov. 1"
