IRS Audits Of Rich Plunge 72%

Deadbeat Millionaires Owe IRS $2.4 Billion
"Funding cuts to the very agency that can pull in more revenue are a key part of the problem. The TRAC study blamed deep cuts in IRS staffing and budget for hamstringing its ability to audit wealthy tax cheats, letting billions of dollars in tax revenue “slip through its fingers...

...Earlier this week, the Treasury Department reported that IRS auditors recouped only about 39% of the more than $4 billion in unpaid taxes owed by audited rich taxpayers with an average annual income of nearly $1.6 million.

The IRS claims because they're charged with writing out all these stimulus checks and child tax credits they're falling behind. Even so far as processing last year's tax forms and this year's along with refunds.

An idea.
Rather then raising the bridge why not lower the water. By that I mean simplify tax laws. By doing so it would close the complicated loopholes wealthy people tend to exploit. The fewer forms the less auditing would be required.

I tend to think corporate lobbyists have solicited congress to make things as complicated as possible so they could use this to their advantage. Lord knows corporate account lawyers will make a lot more money then going to work for the IRS. Take away a bunch of lines in the tax code and more then a few could be making less money. Perhaps even out of work looking for a job with the IRS. That would be a good thing for everybody.

Rather then investing a huge amount of time the IRS spends doling out money their efforts would be better spent making sure the government is receiving what it's owed. This should matter to the greater number of taxpayers who will end up paying for those outwitting their tax responsibilities.

In short either they pay what's owed or we will end up getting the short end of the stick.

Here's a fun fact
Some say the tax code runs about 75,00 pages (500 words single spaced per page). If you're interested whether this is correct you can check it out for yourself at the uscode.house.gov Title 26 section to be certain. Get back to me when you're done. Let me know if it's true :-)
