What's old is new again
Back in the 60's and 70's I thought nothing of calling "City Beverage" (a beer distributor no longer in existence located at 8th & Walnut streets) in Allentown and ordering 2 or 3 cases of beer delivered to my home. I paid the driver in cash + tip. So pardon me if I'm not going all gaga over Pennsylvania's latest announcements concerning home delivery.
It restricts the amount of beer that can be delivered to 192 ounces.
It doesn't allow the point-of-sale to occur where it's delivered.
To top that off, those willing to deliver will have to buy licenses costing upwards $860. In other words unlike years ago this is turning into a cash cow for the Pennsylvania.
As far as these phony quantity restrictions go, let me explain.
Whenever I want to buy 24 cans of beer, bars are only allowed to sell me 2-6 packs. All I have to do is take two six packs out to the car. Then turn around and walk right back in and buy two more. The law only says 2-6 packs can be sold in a single transaction. There are no defined time limits between purchases. If one bar refuses I simply go to another to buy another two. I'm assuming there is nothing stopping anyone from doing the same with this home delivery razzmatazz nonsense.
As I understand the law anyone, in a single purchase, can buy pallets of beer at a distributor or hard liquor at a state store. Am I now supposed to be excited that it will cost more to do what I already can do by simply getting off my lazy butt?
I guess that's what Pennsylvania is counting on. What do you think?
