Question For You On School Funding

Every year around this time when school taxes start becoming due people bemoan having to pay taxes on their property.

Any one have another idea how schools could be funded?

  1. Easy. Replace school property tax with a slightly raised retail sales tax.

Everyone pays retail sales tax, at the same rate. Far more taxpayers than when just taxing homeowners.

Yes, there are arguments against this new funding source for schools. But, they just don't hold up and should not be a serious problem to overcome.

As a person's spendable income rises, those who spend more than someone else - pay more.

    1. I like the idea but the state will argue it is not a steady source of income to budget on. It can fluctuate too much.
