We've all heard the talking point over immigration how "my grandparents came here legally". Of course they did. This was because up until the 'Emergency Quota Act' in 1921 there were no set quotas. Nor rules on the number of refugees seeking asylum until 1924 when United States passed it's first 'Immigration Act'. So yeah, of course grandma, grandpa, the relatives and all their kids could simply come in and make themselves at home.
It wasn't until 1934 when the United States starting turning away refugees from Nazi Germany. However even a many of these who did sneak in illegally were given amnesty by President Truman in 1945. Since that time our immigration and refugee laws have been changing repeatedly every few years..

So next time you hear some dummkopf whose grandparents are (or would be today) over 98 spouting about coming here legally with government approval ... know the facts.
