United States No Longer Envy Of The World

Are You Freaking  Kidding Me!

Should there be any questions why the United States is no longer the envy of the world one would need to take a step outside Imagine how we appear to those living afar.

The Silly Season
Here we are about a year and one half out and look at the clowns. One presidential candidate is cooking bacon on the end of a machine gun. Another using a wood chipper to shred obamacare documents. Another trashing his cellphone in a terribly unamusing video. Then there's the growing ever more popular sideshow antics of the Donald. I mean really would you want any of these to be the next so called leader of the "free world". It's downright embarrassing and classless. I don't see how any of these multimillionaires are going to benefit any of us average saps or anyone else in the world for that matter. GROW UP!

You Call This Freedom?
Currently New York City alone has 1.2 million open arrest warrants out on people.

Here in The United States it was reported "547 people have been killed by police during the first six months of 2015.. In the first 24 days of 2015, US police shot and killed 59 people, which is more than police in England and Wales did in the last 24 years (55).

There are supporters (Bill O'reilly@FOX News & some politicians) calling for more unauthorized immigrants to be housed in detention centers. 'The Los Angles Times' is reporting, the United States is paying private companies to house them where they can labor for $1-$3 a day. "At the commissary, a bag of potato chips cost $4, bottled water $2... “It's ironic — it's illegal for them to work, but they’re working for the immigration service in a sense,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a conservative think tank in Washington.". A labor camp by any other name is still a labor camp. Something we've criticized North Korea & China for doing. Not exactly a shining example to the rest of the world, is it?

Highly flexible "probable cause" laws that allow authorities to pull over vehicles, stop and frisk people or forcibly enter citizens homes in ever increasing numbers. Taping phones, intercepting emails and internet usage. The list goes on and on.

Social Well Being
Nearly every other civilized country offers healthcare. Even Cuba offers better healthcare and medicines to not just themselves but to other nations in South America. Most European countries provide family leave and worker protection far beyond anything we have here. Dozens have crime rates a fraction of our own.

"If You Don't Like It Leave"
That's not the point we're discussing. We're discussing our standing in the world's eyes. For nearly 200 years other countries have tried to emulate us. They envied our advances in medicine, technology and how we treat not only one another but how the United States treats other nations. At this juncture we need to take a step back and take a review of ourselves.

Are we #1 in alternative energy, new manufacturing, new medicines/treatments at reasonable costs and in general equitable creating fair socioeconomic conditions for our vets/elderly/disabled, etc.? If we are to be honest with ourselves the answer might be disappointing on world terms. Sure there's lots of places on this earth where living conditions are horrible. The question still remains whether we are number one and the envy of the world. Isn't that where we want to be?

Come on, wake up. We can do better... or has our time passed and we no longer capable of being "the envy of the world"?
