God May Not Be On Our Side

Neil deGrasse Tyson on God

Neil of course was speaking towards the human species. Here's the way I see it.

If God favored the creation of all the species (including plants) equally he/she/it felt it would be important each one felt the need to survive. Without this instinct for survival each of the creations could perish before they were able to reproduce enabling the sustaining of themselves. In other words as soon as the going got tough they'd likely choose to end their suffering prematurely.

This applies not only to humans but plants, all the other animals, bacteria and viruses as well. Every living creature feeds on the other in this world. Hence it explains why people can become infected by some pretty nasty diseases that wish to extend their own existence through feeding on our bodies. Does it not therefore make sense why no matter how much one prays that the creator will end the life of various disease causing bacteria within us he/she/it will fail to honor such a request?

Yes I know we all would like to think we human species are special but all indications are we are not in the creator's eyes. Otherwise he/she/it only would have created humans and none of these other species in the first place. Same goes with all the disasters on this earth like flooding, droughts, earthquakes and the like which indiscriminately takes the lives of not only us but other species as well including plants. In other words God doesn't favor humans no matter how we wish it weren't so.

So what about these so-called disasters?
Although they come at a cost they do serve a purpose. Earthquakes and volcanoes give rise to new land and mountains allowing species to populate where they couldn't before. Many arise from below the oceans. The rain and wind storms arise mainly from overheated oceans or polluted air. Earth's way of cleansing itself allowing for life to continue. Think of it as earth's way of puking so it can become healthier.

So here's the bottom line...
Whatever this creator is he/she/it plays no favorites. The sun shines on every living creature. The good, the bad and the ugly. Everything born has in it's destiny to die. Those who cannot accept this equality are only making themselves more miserable then need be and adds to others' sufferings.
