Automaker Charging A Fee To Use Their Remote Engine Start FOP

Toyota Made Its Key Fob Remote Start Into a Subscription Service
December 09, 2021: "A Toyota spokesperson confirmed to The Drive that if a 2018 or later Toyota is equipped with Toyota's Remote Connect functions, the vehicle must be enrolled in a valid subscription (whether it be a free trial period or otherwise) in order for the key fob to start the car. It's become more common in recent years for automakers to charge for apps that allow drivers to monitor, lock, or start their cars with their smartphones. But as far as we can tell, Toyota's the first company to charge for full use of your physical key fob—either $8 a month or $80 a year at the Remote Connect plan's current price."

Why stop there?
How about a fee to use the headlights, heater, AC etc.

Seems greed has no limits. So now cars can cost $15,000 on up after mostly phony dealer fees. Add insurance, repairs, inspection, registration, maintenance, fuels costs. Leasing is even worse with the deposits, upfront costs, other extra fees. All of this so someone can get to work. This on top of mortgage, rent, groceries, utilities, etc. No wonder people are no longer inclined to work. What's the point if it takes $2,000 or $3,000 a month just to break even.
