Most all the local governments in the Lehigh Valley have cancelled their summer events including shutting down playgrounds, some parks and all the pools. Although they stated it was because of Covid 19 I suspect money might have played a larger role.
I'm all for being careful but at some point the lid is going to blow off this thing. People been mostly patient up to now but there comes a point where patience begins to run thin. I think we'll soon begin to see just how much people are willing to tolerate.
There are better solutions.
Most of those solutions come from the private sector not politicians. Increasingly the government in standing in the way of implementing them. If government continues along this path it will not fare well for it or any of us.
Look, I know how stupid some people can be. Let the Coronavirus itself educate those foolish enough to disregard it's dangers. Government cannot change peoples' behaviors. Nor should government hamstring those of us who can act responsibly. Somehow government has taken it upon itself to try and save stupid people from themselves. I feel it has no such obligation. Let nature take it's course and allow the rest of us with common sense to get on with our lives in a prudent manner.
The bottom line is this..
Government has allowed huge corporate owned stores to remain open while forcing mom and pop operations to shutdown. These huge stores have allowed hundreds (if not 1,000's) of potential disease carriers to pass through their doors daily. This while mom and pop operations were lucky if they'd have only a teeny tiny fraction come through their doors if they were allowed to remain open. Something doesn't pass the smell test here.
Now as tourists cities start to ramp up others are shutting down what little they do offer. So if you have the loot you can scoot. If you're unable to afford... stay bored.
