Gobble Tov!

Author Dianne Ashton said it will never happen again,
some have calculated it will reoccur 79,043 years from now

Actually these two do not fall exactly on the same day. Rather they overlap each other. Chanukah (Hanukkah) begins the night before Thursday, November 28, 2013 (Thanksgiving day).

Dianne also claimed this never happened before. Well that would depend on whether you reject the outcome of the civil war or not.

It's a rather complicated story...

Even though the Civil War ended with the surrender of Robert E. Lee on April 9, 1865 (Lincoln was assassinated less then a week later), some Southern redneck states refused to accept Abraham Lincoln's declaration making the last Thursday in November a federal holiday in 1863. Those that did accept the change would have celebrated Chanukah and Thanksgiving at the same time 125 years ago (1888). On the other hand, the good ole' boys down South would stubbornly insist this never happened at the same time.
Isn't it great that we moved on from these kind of politics, eh?
:-)
