Local Education Forget About It

The Lehigh Career & Technical Institute was evacuated Thursday morning after receiving a bomb threat.

So were William Allen High students sent home after one of their own.



Between study halls, snow days, teachers' workshops, teacher strikes and school holidays I'm amazed there's any time left for instruction. Charter schools aren't the answer either given their track records.

Face it our educational system is a mess. Taxpayers are now suppose to pay for security, nursery schools, (pre-K), free breakfast and lunches, nursery care for single mothers while in high school and for the after school programs. Throw in the pension plans, school administration executives' salaries and it begins to make you wonder how much is left towards providing a fundamental education of our children.

It should be noted many countries (China, in the Caribbean and throughout Europe) require English as a second language. Hell, many of our kids can't speak and write fluently in English. Of course between these many distractions (including fight clubs) is it any wonder?

Life's a Bitch: How I'd Fix This
Start an entirely new second shadow school system anew from our present one. No free meals with zero tolerance for failure or bad behavior. Only those serious about their education and well behaved would be allowed to attend in entirely separate areas apart from our present public school buildings. These would receive my prioritized funding.

I'd be happy to discuss this via comments with anyone who wishes to pursue this further, Otherwise I see no point in expanding this post any longer then it is if no one has an interest.
