Shep Speaks With The Former Deputy Director Of The NSA

Judge Napolitano w/ Shep Smith

"Just in case you thought not being a Verizon customer meant you weren't covered by yesterday's report of widespread NSA logging, the Wall Street Journal says the program extends much wider.

Citing "people familiar with the NSA's operations," it stated phone call metadata is also being collected from AT&T and Sprint, along with data from other ISPs and even credit card purchase info."

COMMENTARY
Here's the problem with all this outrage. This particular thing we are discussing today started under the Bush administration. Apparently most Americans slept through this period when it was discussed primarily on PBS. Yeah I know most people think watching PBS is a great way to fall asleep. I'm sure a lot of government officials who want to defund PBS hope you do !

Is It Legal?

However I've been aware of this going on for far longer. The government has been doing this kind of thing since about 1942.

I read about it in James Bamford's book- "The Puzzle Palace". He published the book back in 1982 while he was the 'Investigative Producer' for ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings in Washington. It was a investigative book about the goings on inside the intelligence agencies.

Dozens of high frequency telephone channels and "specific" circuits were monitored 24 hours a day. With the cooperation of telegraph communication companies, copies of foreign messages were held up to 24 hours before being sent overseas so U.S. intelligence could make copies and review them before being sent.

Since that time the U.S. has teamed up with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom to create a project called ECHELON which has been around since the early 60's There are also a whole bunch more of wire tapping and data mining operations and locations since that time.

In fact the NSA is currently building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center in Bluffdale, Utah at a cost said to be an estimated $2 billion. It expected to be up and running by September 2013. Once completed this one million square foot facility will house almost an infinite amount of database storage and supercomputers that are said to be capable of processing 20 terabytes (21,990,232,555,520 bytes) of intercept data a minute.

I realize I posted this several times already, but it bears repeating once again.

Person Of Interest"

Yeah, it's kinda' like that!
