Most Popular Sites On The Internet

According to 'Alexa' other then some of the worldwide search engines 'Facebook' and 'YouTube' seem to be the top two. Most of the others that follow are either shopping or research sites like Baidu.com. and Wikipedia.org. It surprises me that 'Blogspot.com' holds spot #20 above 'Instagram', 'Reddit' and 'Pinterest' which all three turn out to be less popular.

News sites seem to fare poorly. A few examples are..
     Huffington Post #111
     Daily Mail #114
     Fox News #201
     Washington Post #243

What Are We To Conclude Kids?
The majority of internet users throughout the world are more interested in themselves ('Facebook'), watching videos (YouTube), shopping or reading blogs then visiting news sites. What this says to me, people are more interested in what goes on in their personal lives. Not so much the news, politicians or things that tend to be outside their immediate concerns. So much for what the big boys think is theirs alone. The mainstream media.

So What Should I Be focusing On?
Obviously less then what goes on in the news (other then maybe locally). According to YouTube what's most popular right now are things like TV shows & celebrities and a bunch of other crap I have absolutely no interest in. So that's out.

I'm not sure what I should focus my future attentions on. One thing's for sure it won't be on shopping, cooking, hairstyles or what most people seem to be into.. selfies. While you're at it forget about me schmoozing with anything or anyone just because it or they seem to be the most popular in order to garner attention. I don't have it in me. Looks like I'm out of luck, very dated and doomed to be..

What I Will Continue To Focus On.. What Matters Most To Me
If this means fewer readers... so-be-it. At the same time wishing to thank those loyal readers who do drop by here nearly every single day. I appreciate your doing so. It's my hope from time to time you will one day drop a me line. If not that's fine too. My 'statcounter' indicates enough of you do visit which makes this blog worthwhile in continuing to offer whatever contribution I can through this medium. My sincere thanks.

News Media Here's How I'd Do It

Statistical analysts say humans now have less attention span (8.25 secs) then a goldfish (9 secs). Almost a full four seconds less then humans did in 2000. More details on this can be found HERE.

When it comes to reading web pages only 4% of readers will spend more then 10 minutes reading them. This pretty much squares with what my 'statcounter' indicates.

The Fix
TV: Forget the boring long five minute interviews. All news stories should be limited to three minutes or less. I'm certain all the 'who/what/where/when' information can be done within that time span. This was the formula behind the rollout of CNN when Ted Turner first ran it. One channel had headline news. The other went into depth. Abandoning that format, CNN has fallen behind ever since.

PRINT MEDIA: Newspapers should limit the front page to one or two short paragraphs. If people want more details refer them to pages buried further back. This attention span also explains the extinction of traditional magazines Face it if you had a choice which would you rather. 'Life Magazine' (with it's captioned pictures) or 'News Week'?

What I Attempted To Do With This Blog
I changed the format a few months ago. When visitors land on this Blog they have a bunch of short summaries to choose from. Anyone wishing further details simply have only to click on one of them for greater details. Just as you have done. Otherwise you wouldn't have gotten this far into my post in reading this.

I Disagree With LVCC Blog Post

LVCC Guest Writer--"I recently attended a seminar of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of NJ on “Doing Business in Cuba.”... A Jersey-based Cuban-American developer asked a critical question: what assurances can you give me that my investment will be protected?

... For all the excitement and diplomatic breakthroughs, the change in US-Cuba relations is still a long way from materializing into the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow some predict. As an international business lawyer and arbitrator, I remain cautious..."

What I Have A Problem With
Anyone who's spent a small fortune to visit some of the Caribbean islands may be as disappointed as we were with some of them. Why should anyone wish to step ashore and find a bunch of Burger Kings, Pizza Huts, Walmarts and K-Marts much like where we left from?

That's exactly what happened at several of these cruise ships port of calls to us. We might as well have rented a row boat. Cross the Delaware and visited New Jersey. Cuba tourism has picked up greatly by visitors from other countries in recent days. The reason being cited they wanted to enjoy the Cuban culture before the United States mucks it up.

It's bad enough the hand carved turtles and island knick knacks sold by local vender tents had items imported from China, but at least it gave the illusion, eh?

I suggest stateside businesses be content with selling supplies and other various items to current & future business owners in Cuba. Let them at least have the pretense Cuba remains unique and separate in it's culture. I don't need no damn Starbucks coffee shop. Let Cuban shop owners brew their own. I'd rather enjoy a poor Cuban Taxi driver eking out a living bobbing around in a 50's Chevy then reserve ahead having him to share his profits with Uber. I don't need to have an American casino operator once again exploiting the Cuban peoples.

If this is what is intended I hope Ruel Castro will have enough sense to tell American investors to go pound sand. Cuba was once the United States playground. Let's not turn Cubans back into American owned business employees. If that's the goal of the Chamber I hope they will be forever disappointed if they never find the "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow".

I WOULDN'T WANT TO CHANGE A DAMN THING!

Don't Ya Just Hate Government Welfare Giveaways!

Especially when US taxpayers are subsidizing the world’s biggest fossil fuel companies.

Take for example-- "A proposed Shell petrochemical refinery in Pennsylvania is in line for $1.6bn in state subsidy, according to a deal struck in 2012 when the company made an annual profit of $26.8bn."

And You Thought Allentown's NIZ Giveaway Sucked !

Deep Water Drilling In Gulf 2nd Time A Charm?

'Aljazerra': Deep-water drilling to resume near site of 2010 BP oil disaster-- "Louisiana-based oil company LLOG Exploration Offshore LLC plans to drill into the Macondo reservoir, according to federal records reviewed by The Associated Press. Harper's Magazine first reported the drilling plans late Tuesday.

The company, a privately owned firm based in Covington, Louisiana, will be looking to extract oil and gas deep under the Gulf of Mexico's sea floor — an undertaking that proved catastrophic for BP....On April 20, 2010, a drilling rig used by BP to drill into the Macondo field experienced a series of problems that led to a massive blowout."
