This was nearly three years ago. Look at all the stuff hackers have been able come up with since. Things like those involving major corporate and government server security breaches for example. It isn't a stretch to believe both our own government and foreign governments alike aren't extremely interested in employing individuals with these kind of skills.
Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing I suppose depends if you're the snooper or the one being snooped.
Then again who's to say the snooper isn't being snooped on at the same time too :-)
