No Need For College

Reposted From: August 5, 2010

A couple things he didn't mention:
Students will have 4 or 5 working years less in lifetime earnings while they are attending school.

'Return On Investment': Some courses that cost $100,000 upwards for degrees in certain professions will likely see less then $40,000 a year in earnings. Many trade schools offer a much higher R.O.I.
Times are tough to get the money together for many wanting to attend collge. Therefore I Submit For your consideration..

Distant Galaxies Mess With Our Lives

Repost

The implications of what these energetic particles are capable of doing is enormous. Especially if they are able to alter DNA as implied in this video. I also find it rather astounding the knowledge these scientists have acquired. Much of which I have never heard of before. I'm learning new stuff everyday.

One Day All The Stars Will Disappear

Repost

Forbes
The Universe Is Disappearing, And There's Nothing We Can Do To Stop It
"..the farther away a galaxy was from us, the faster it appears to recede.... as time goes on, individual galaxies will appear to recede away from us faster and faster. In time, they'll become unreachable, even if we journeyed towards them at the speed of light... "

Which brings me to the theory I've always held about the universe being only 13.8 billion light years old. Could it just be trillions of other stars lie beyond. Ones which sped up to such a speed light from them wouldn't be able to reach us?

We measure how fast light can travel in time. Therein lies the problem--- "TIME". What is it? Can anything exist beyond our present understandings of TIME? Does TIME even exist holistically? If TIME is limited to a measurement between events we observe can THINGS exist beyond those we can not?

Yeah, then there's that :-)

My Answer Machine Took Another Scam Call

Repost

It's really good at that :-)

A woman thinking she was speaking to someone said, "This is the awards department. Can you hear me?"

It's an oldie but goodie. If you say yes it's being recorded. Usually it's some company looking to switch your utility, telephone provider or something similar. Your saying yes gives them go ahead to do whatever they're looking to do. In other words you inadvertently gave your consent verbally.

It's called TELEPHONE SLAMMING (Wikipedia). Don't fall for it.

Bruce Springsteen - The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 2006

On April 30, 2006 Bruce Springsteen took the stage at the New Orleans Jazz Fest for the debut performance of his new group, Bruce Springsteen and the Sessions Band. The weight of Hurricane Katrina, which had happened only eight months prior, could be felt everywhere in that great city, especially on the site of Jazz Fest. This is the live film of that legendary and premier performance by Bruce Springsteen and the Sessions Band.

Today's Workers Not Keeping Up With The Dead

Repost/Updated

We've been taught if we work really hard we all can become wealthy. Anyone who ain't--mustn't be working hard enough. Take for example... AP: FORBES: MICHAEL JACKSON TOP EARNING DEAD CELEBRITY WITH $75M--Two other singers join Jackson in the top five. Elvis Presley comes in fourth with $35 million and Bob Marley ranks fifth with $23 million.Who knows--after tax reform they may even do better next year.

Now that right there must have been some really busy bees last year. What an inspiration for the rest of us still around to try and work harder.

Whoever said the taxman couldn't still collect after you're dead hasn't been paying attention.

Who Made God?

Repost

Simple question it is not. Scientist and theologians pretty much agree on this explanation which falls short. They both point out creation was formed containing both time, matter and energy. The problem is we get bogged down with this word existence. Existence is where we live. Existence itself is a product of this intelligent force. Not the other way around. Hence why labeled the creator of all "things".

Imagine if you will someone creates the most intelligent computer in the world. One that never existed before. It then sets out to discover it's creator by whatever limited means were given to it. Would it one day be able to become coequal. Perhaps it's possible over time it might be able to somewhat comprehend it's maker. Even become a close companion, but it's impossible for me to imagine it becoming human. Look, I enjoy the Story of Pinocchio as much as anybody, but really?

I think realistically this is the fix us humans find ourselves in. Just perhaps even the "creator" itself. Could it be possible this creator found itself wondering the very same thing. "Where did I come from"? Since the "eye cannot see itself" just suppose he/she/it set all this in motion hoping we'll come up with an answer. Could this be the motivation behind all of this?

It's been said "God" is complete and has all the answers. Does he/she/it? Hellva assumption from how little we understand. Lonely alone not knowing would be a hellva motivating factor for going to all this fuss. Perhaps we have a lot more in common then anyone's willing to believe. Not just curiosity but possible vulnerability as well in the not knowing.

We can safely assume is there's not a old grey bearded guy sitting on a throne fretting over every little detail of some 7 billion peoples' lives currently living on Earth. The proof lies in the fact millions upon millions have killed each other since leaving the womb... NOTHING. Governments and their leaders find no favor (despite what you heard). Storms, fire, earthquakes meteor impacts... NADA either.

We need to take a logical approach. One which assumes God isn't coming in a flaming chariot with a booming voice. If indeed this intelligence lies beyond "our existence" we need to focus on it's goals. If our purpose is for the creatior to greater understand itself it's seems to me we best align ourselves with that if we wish to remain useful.

Republican-Democrat Historical Legislations

Repost

Here are a few of the historically significant accomplishments by both parties followed by commentary.

Republicans
* The Emancipation Proclamation

* Women's right to vote- First introduced by Rep. Senator Aaron A. Sargent of Calif. in 1872. Ratified in 1920 under Woodrow Wilson (Dem)

* Take over construction of the Panama Canal under Teddy Roosevelt

* First women elected to U.S. House- Jeanette Rankin from Montana

* Calvin Coolidge- Construction of the Hoover Dam

* The interstate highway system was borne under Dwight Eisenhower

* First Asian American elected to the U.S. Senate- Hiram Fong from Hawaii

* Republicans in the senate crafted the 'Civil Rights Act' in 1960. President Eisenhower signed it into law despite opposition from the Democrats' failed attempts at filibustering it. In the end Democrats finally got on board and voted in favor of the measure. Democrats also supported the 'Civil Rights Act of 1964' introduced by President John F. Kennedy and later signed into law by Lyndon Johnson after Kennedy's assassination.

Democrats
* 'The New Deal' under Franklin Roosevelt helped this country back from depression

* Draft for Social Security legislation was begun under Roosevelt's administration. According to Politifact, "It passed in the House 372-33, with 81 Republicans voting in support. The next day, the bill was passed in the Senate 77-6, with 16 Republicans supporting the legislation."

* Medicare- According to the following chart from the SSA...

* Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

What The Hell Happened Since!
As you can see none of these (maybe except for Obamacare) would never have happened without both parties working together for the good of the nation. This is especially significant given the fact Democrats controlled the U.S. House for 62 years from 1930 to 1992 (Except for 1946 and 1952). And yet things still got done. When did this divide begin?

Some say it began back around 1965. Up until that time southern states were largely made up of Democrats. After Democrats enacted the 'Civil Rights Act of 1964' more then a few of the southern white middle class felt betrayed after new political voices emerged. Opponents of the Democratic party exploited the a less-educated, blue-collar whites planting seeds that now their jobs and way of life will be taken away by the blacks.

No doubt about it, making the most of playing to one's fears when it comes to income or threatening someone's way of life by anyone not of their ancestry can be quite successful. History has clearly demonstrated this. Given that it has, it should come as no surprise today's Democratic opposition members are playing this very same fiddle tune.

Not only conservatives are playing on peoples fears and weaknesses. It works just as well for both sides. When it comes to so-called outside threats from terrorists, immigration, government regulation or anything else the both have become bullshit virtuosos using this ploy trying to get what they seek.

Gone Are The Days
Once you couldn't pick out a Democrat from a Republican in a lineup. 'Southern Democrats' once acted more like Northern Republicans in their day. Also gone are so-called 'Rockefeller Republicans' from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Today either of these would be labeled and ostracized as 'RINOS' or 'DINOS' and tossed by either of their respective parties.

In Summary
In today's political climate both sides are so far away and radicalized that we'd have none of those past legislations I've listed. There'd be no Social Security, Medicare, women or black rights and so forth. Over the last few years Congress has produced little to no legislation regarding immigration reform, campaign reform and hell they can't even produce one full budget other then one small sliver at a time. Why?

Because they're too busy conducting dozens of committee hearings trying to roast any and anyone who actually tries to do something. In doing so I feel they are attempting to mask their own failures to enact legislation on important issues. Congress doesn't like the way IRS does business? GO WRITE A LAW. Congress doesn't like Obama's executive actions on immigration, regulation, education or foreign policies. GO WRITE A LAW! Don't like the way states are doing their elections? GO WRITE A LAW.

Here's a extensive list of defunct congressional committees along with a selection (at the bottom) of today's. Most which served for investigate purposes. Can there be any wonder why so many actual legislative bills are drawn up by lobbyists or special interests groups? They're too damn busy holding hearings and committee meetings investigating everything and anything (including themselves) to get much else done.

“I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is a disgrace,
that two become a lawfirm,
and that three or more become a congress.”

Some Mind Blowing Scientific Stuff

Repost

All the a articles below are from 'Extreme Tech.com'

Is our universe a hologram?-- "Basically, if true, this means that the universe as we know it may be the result of processes happening on some other surface or plane."

COMMENT:
I always kind of thought the whole world was full of shit.
Looks like I may have vastly underestimated.

Is there a ocean 400 miles beneath our feet that could fill our oceans three times over?-- "This discovery suggests that Earth’s surface water actually came from within, as part of a “whole-Earth water cycle,” rather than the prevailing theory of icy comets striking Earth billions of years ago... We’re not talking about some kind of water reserve that can be reached in the same way as an oil well. The deepest a human borehole has ever gone is just 12km, about half way through the Earth’s crust , and we had to stop because geothermal energy was melting the drill bit."

COMMENT:
Pssst.. don't tell 'Nestle Waters'.

Astronauts find living organisms clinging to the International Space Station-- "During a spacewalk intended to clean the International Space Station, Russian astronauts took samples from the exterior of the station for a routine analysis... they found that living organisms were clinging to outside of the ISS. The astronauts identified the organisms as sea plankton that likely originated from Earth, but the team couldn’t find a concrete explanation as to how these organisms made it all the way up to the space station or how they managed to survive."

COMMENT:
Damn hitch hikers free loading on taxpayers' dime !

IBM cracks open a new era of computing with brain-like chip: 4096 cores, 1 million neurons, 5.4 billion transistors-- "The chip, called TrueNorth, consists of 1 million programmable neurons and 256 million programmable synapses across 4096 individual neurosynaptic cores... the human brain.. total power consumption is around 20 watts. A modern silicon chip, despite having features that are almost on the same tiny scale as biological neurons and synapses, can consume thousands or millions times more energy to perform the same task as a human brain."

COMMENT:
Looks like there's still hope for me after all.

Scientists work out how create matter from light-- "Physicists in England claim they have discovered how to create matter from light, by smashing together individual massless photons."

COMMENT:
Hope they never figure out a weapon making matter work in reverse. Biblically speaking it also reminds me how many times it was stated "God" is light. It also seems to support the theory matter can never been created nor destroyed. Transformed perhaps?

The downside of warp drives-- "NASA researchers recently revisited the Alcubierre warp drive and concluded that its power requirements were not as impossible as once thought. However, a new analysis from the University of Sydney claims that using a warp drive of this design comes with a drawback. Specifically, it could cause cataclysmic explosions at your destination... To see how the Alcubierre drive could devastate an entire star system, you have to know a little about how it would work.."

COMMENT:
Are your sure?
That's not how it played out in 'Star-Trek'. Maybe their dilithium crystal warp drives weren't based on the "Alcubierre warp drive".

* Star-Trek's talking computer seems so yesterday
* "Phasers" are today's lasers as well.
* Star-Trek's "transponders" were nothing more then flip phones far less capable of what's possible with our everyday use of smartphones today.

If scientists today support the theory they can now "create matter from light, by smashing together individual massless photons" I wouldn't count out Star-Trek's' "Photon Torpedoes" either.

Therefore neither should we be too quick to dismiss the possibility of "warp drives" coming into existence one day w/o devastating an entire star system as assumed by today's scientists.

What seemed to be yesterday's science fiction has become in many ways today's reality. Who's to say what may be possible?
