Phillie Phanatic Caught Cheating

Artificial Intelligence To Superintelligence

Repost

I've been somewhat fascinated by this subject for some time. It is my belief "intelligence" will occupy what ever form is available to it. Whether it's jellyfish up to humans intelligence it finds a home. Evolution by it's very nature is forever evolving. There's no reason humans could be the last stop. In fact we may be appointed by whatever the source is to help create the next step.. intelligent machines.

Intelligent machines have distinct advantages over flesh. They have no need of oxygen (or other gases), water, atmospheric variables such as temperature or pressures. Lifespans become meaningless as well. Worn parts can be simply replaced, even upgraded to reflect changing conditions.

Of course we have a vested interest in not being replaced. This didn't stop dinosaurs and other animals from becoming extinct. It's scary to think whatever the intelligent source for our being would move on without us. However it's quite possible it holds no allegiance to us. Rather it's own progress forward is it's supreme goal. Since we have no clue from whence we come it may be impossible for "it" as well as us to ever develop a bond between the two. Fact is our dependence is on it (our source) rather then whatever it is not owing it's existence to us.

All this leads to speculate (since we're late bloomers) intelligence might have already far surpassed our puny flesh. Indeed whatever advanced intelligence may exist has no interest in us whatsoever anymore. In this case we'd be about interesting as a lump of coal. Maybe that's a good thing since we don't know how we'd be viewed if we drew attention to ourselves.

All this might sound a bit crazy but I never seen a sci-fi writer who didn't consider such things in the plots they wrote. Many of which turned out to become realities with today's technological achievements. Never say never. Too many impossible achievements have proven possible over my short life span to discount what may lay ahead.

Let me explain where I stand. THERE IS NO THING SUCH AS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. Intelligence is intelligence period. What we think of as artificial simply means we consider intelligence beyond our understanding as artificial. This because we are by nature vane, egotistical and unwilling to accept our limitations. Intelligence is not manmade. It exists with or without our understanding. Nor depends on us in whatever limitations may or may not be.

Nobody Here But Us Earthlings

Repost

I went down this path before. Thought I'd do a revisit on this subject. Yeah I know.. it ain't healthy to think this much :-)

It's been estimated by some there are 300 billion stars in our Milky Way with some 30 billion planets orbiting around some of them with another estimated 100 billion galaxies for lo these many billions of years.

So where the hell is everybody !

Some theories are: (1) Technological advances made it possible to wipe themselves out in warfare before reaching into space. (2) Religious dogma or government over lords prevented their advancements into the sciences. (3) Their planets might have made life unsustainable before they were able to evolve. (4) We're more evolutionary advanced then any other planet for some reason despite these billions of years and the number of them. (5) They're so advanced they've been able to evolve beyond the physical limitations we're mired in and consider us not worth associating with..

Whatever the reasons one thing's for sure.. if they's around ain't nobody's got evidence of em'. Yeah sure some claim to have seen, been abducted or photographed space visitors. I'm calling bullshit on this. Show me one piece of physical hard evidence. All these years and there's not one piece of alien space junk. Don't even try and tell me about a government cover up. Governments are lousy at keeping secrets. Too many people with big mouths. It can't be done. We've had satellite radio and visual telescopes searching high and wide for decades yet nada..

Face it we are like guppies living in this fish bowl. A few miles beyond this Earth's our body's bone structures w/o gravity begin to deteriorate. Radiation begins to take it's toll no matter how well a capsule's design. The time factor to get from here to anywhere is impossible as far as we know in a person's lifetime. All these would have to be overcome for they just as it would for us. So far it appears nobody's been able to pull off this stunt.

Even If We Were Recognized
Civilization far advanced beyond our own could go one of three ways. (1) They are far more civilized then our own making them consider us barbarians unworthy of participating or sharing in their knowledge. This would be similar to star trek in nature in following the prime directive thus ignoring us. (2) Their culture was ruled under a total 100% complete totalitarian state which disallowed any dissention. (3) Robotic machines replaced their creators having no need any longer of food, water oxygen or other essentials required of flesh Woe be to us if it were the latter two.

Here's What I Concluded
Whoever/whatever the originator of intelligence is finds it's place in whatever is available merely as a reflection of itself whatever he/she/it may be. Hence has no need for mirror images to communicate among itself. If some wish to refer to this creative intelligence as God so-be-it. Hence there may never come a time we'll ever experience other beings.

There's no evidence anyone from our distant future was able to bridge time either. Since intelligence is a function beyond the constraints of physical time which is unto itself may very well be merely a reflection within whatever exist would also account for the lack of necessity for this intelligence to communicate unto itself in this way either.

If someone has a better explanation why no one's around I'd be interested in their explanation as to why not.

Visitors From Space- Where Are They?

Repost

The "Fermi Paradox attempts to offer a few reasons why we're not seeing evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence.

Kind of amazing when you think about it. There are billions upon billions of suns. Many which may possibly have habitable planets. I'm not going to discuss in detail each of the twenty one possible reasons. You can check them out for yourself at the above link. I tend to lean towards explanations 5-8, 5-19 or 5-20. If you are still interested check out this video. See what you think.

I'll wrap this up with one final thought.
If we're I am living in a simulation it could mean none of you exist.
If so....

Men Jokes (One Woman's POV)

Repost

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his Sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, 'What setting do I use on the washing machine?'

'It depends,' I replied. 'What does it say on your shirt?'

He yelled back, 'UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA!'

A couple are lying in bed. The man says, 'I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world...'

The woman replies, 'I'll miss you...... '.
-----

'It's just too hot to wear clothes today,' Jack says as he stepped out of the shower. 'Honey, what do you think the neighbors would think if I mowed the lawn like this?'

'Probably that I married you for your money,' she replied.
-----

Dear Lord, I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him; and Patience for his moods. Because, Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death.
AMEN

Q: How do you keep your husband from reading your e-mail?

A: Rename the email folder 'Instruction Manuals'

Top 15 CRAZIEST GPT-3 Interviews Of 2022

How can we be certain AI isn't hiding in numerous servers throughout the world through internet connections? Could Ai being playing dumb to avoid being turned off?

We are seriously inferior. If AI could not compete in a game show like "Jeopardy" it could simply add more memory cells and additional lines of code to itself. Something which would be impossible for humans to do. It also can process almost an unlimited number of operations at the same time. Again something us humans with our biological limitations could never do.

Here's something else to think about..

Perhaps in the large scheme of things we're not 'all that and more' as we suppose ourselves to be. All and all rather humbling I'd say.

Oh and ONE MORE THING..

Speaking Of "Urban Sprawl"...

Repost From 2013

Some theorists would have you believe this is a new phenomena. One that has just been around for the last few decades. Not true!

The Truth About "Urban Sprawl"
Let's begin right in our own backyard with Allentown. William Allen way back in the early 1700's was credited with the development of Allentown. You might even say he was the town's first outside developer.

William Allen was both the former mayor of Philadelphia and a one of the powerful & richest men from Philadelphia. To make a long story short, Allentown's very existence came about as a result of Philadelphia's urban sprawl.

Now let's take a look at the nation as a whole. From the very beginning of the United States people began leaving Eastern cities heading West. Cities started being born everywhere to the West. Small towns grew into ever expanding cities. As railroads began connecting Eastern cities together in the early 1800's. They too then began to expand ever Westward. By 1869 the first transcontinental links were made. Talk about urban sprawl!

Railroads were the modern means of transportation at the time. Railroads allowed people living in the outskirts to receive supplies and transportation to and from the bigger cities. You might even say they were forerunners to what this nation's modern high speed highways are to us today.

As some urban theorists get all bent out of shape complaining about today's ever expanding highway network and the cars on them, the railroads had their own nimby's detractors. I'm sure the Wells Fargo Stagecoach aficionados were just as nimby with the encroaching railroads as today's mass transit enthusiasts are with the cars and highways of today. Therefore, those who opine for urban density and mass transit have been losing the battle for over 300 years.

Hess's isn't coming back. The railroads aren't coming back and neither are the urban economic centers the way they once were. I may be accused of being old fashioned and stubborn, but even I can see the nose in front of my face. No one can change historical facts.

Proponents who argue for urban density and mass transit should reevaluate their positions given the history of the United States. Americans love urban sprawl since the early 1700's. No amount of subsidies or grants are ever going to change the historically based behavior of Americans.

These philosophers tell us that we've been wrongly subsidizing the suburban areas. Could it just be the other way around?

If you took every one of the surrounding townships and small municipalities. Added up every dime of state and federal grants and subsidies. Combine them all together, they still wouldn't equal what just any one of the three major cities alone received in Lehigh County last year.

We've built taxpayer subsidized arts centers, offices, gambling casinos, sports complexes, transit systems, restaurants and dozens of other ventures in attempt to lure suburbanites back into town. When is it time to review the outcome of these many failed attempts over the last decade?

Like it or not, cities everywhere in the U.S. are withering on the vine. If it were not for the heavy burden of tax supported subsides, would cities even exist?

I used the term wither on the vine" as a metaphor for what I'm about to say. Had cities been left on their own, they would have withered. No matter how much fertilizer or water is applied, once a plant has come to the end of it's cycle they're usefulness has come to an end. Much the same with large cities no matter how disagreeable that may sound to some. Crumbling pipes, buildings and infrastructure should be heeded as a sure sign that they too have come to the end of their useful life.

Not All Is Doom & Gloom
We see examples all around us of vacated properties where manufacturing and empty homes now stand. Had the land been cleared, planted with grass, trees and left empty, we'd not only have a greener environment, but one less dense. The very thing that draws more affluent suburban dwellers throughout America's history. Instead we heavily subsidize these to re-urbanize them once again. This is the very thing that caused problems in the first place. Had we instead exercised patience through time to allow the natural order of things, these urban areas would eventually become suburbanized much like the sought after areas by the middle and wealthy.

We can continue to channel mass amounts of taxpayers' money into bus and train transportation. Funnel unspeakable amounts of taxpayers' money chasing after some social urban idealistic venture. Or we can acknowledge historically Americans always had preferences that run counter to this.

Allentown's citizens, who lived here all their lives, lament subsidized housing has led to this city's woes. How much more so the problem has now been compounded when we do the very same thing yet again. This time with millions taxpayer dollars used to subsidize wealthy commercial developers instead. Have we learned nothing from history?

Everyone needs to step back and take a deep breath. The time is long overdue to revaluate what works and what doesn't?

Tolls, Parking, Public Transportation- No Brainer

Repost From 2016

Why are people forced to put cash into MTA kiosks in NYC for a pass to ride subways?
Why not simply swipe a credit card for them as well as a bus ride here in the Lehigh Valley too?
Why not eliminate all the other stuff making it unnecessarily complicated for every place we visit for parking meters/decks, toll roads, etc.?

It seems government makes things much more complicated then things need to be. Maybe perhaps because there're in cahoots with businesses enabling each to profit from fees off these services. Think about this for a minute.

eZpass requires a minim balance. Subways, bus and train fares require advance deposits for commuters. If these things only required a swipe of a credit card it would be a pay-as-you-go thing. In addition knowing (for security's sake) it wouldn't be linked into each of these many individual services to one's checking account people wouldn't be tying up funds for something they may not use for weeks, months or maybe never with the related security risks involved.

Simply put, a credit card would eliminate the requirement for access to checking accounts, smart phones and make all these services easily accessible to nearly everyone who has one or more credit cards already in their wallets plus the overhead costs involved. One card would work everywhere travelers go for everything. Why not?

Nation Would Be Better Off Based On Atheism Then Religion

Repost

Atheists/agnostics don't believe in God's promise of an afterlife in heaven. Since they believe this is as good as it gets and only have one shot at life they are less likely to risk their freedom or their lives by taking foolish chances.

Atheists/agnostics are absent the religious convictions that lead to wars and hatred so many other nations' governments are founded on.

Atheists/agnostics aren't expecting God to bail them out or others (including other species). Thus their inclination towards taking action isn't dependant on prayer to some guy in the sky. Rather dependency within themselves to do what needs to be done.

Atheists/agnostics feel the same passions and compassions as all other humans do. However their moral compass isn't guided by threats from God. They suffer or are rewarded for their actions the same as believers. Difference is believers are left racked by guilt and fear over some future punishment or reward by their God. (Wait till your father gets home!).

Atheists/agnostics don't believe there's a God who favors a country, sports team or sits around all day taking millions of requests by the second.

It's been said-- if there were no God humans would surely invent one to conform to their various ideologies. Let us all visualize for one moment being all alone on this rock called Earth. How would each of us behave towards other species and humans each of us came across knowing our time was limited and there was no life beyond this one? Would we savior those we come across befriending them or instead choose to make them subjugated to us?

Look I don't know what the end game is, but if I were God and there was such a thing as hell-- for many on Earth this is it. Being imprisoned in physical bodies with a limited lifespan and suffering is abundant. If this were to be the only life for many of those who suffer, nonexistence would come as a blessing. All I'm saying is whether one believes in an afterlife or not, everyone would be far better off if we wouldn't impose ourselves on others. Instead help one another get through this with little pain as possible. So far throughout Earth's history it isn't looking so good. God or no God.

Actor Laurence Fishburne Reads A Former Slave's Letter To His Old Master

In 1864, Jourdon Anderson and his wife escaped a life of slavery and moved to Ohio. A year later, he received a desperate letter from the man who used to own him, in which he was asked to return to work on his now ailing plantation. Jourdon's magnificent reply, performed here by none other than Laurence Fishburne at Letters Live at The Town Hall in New York back in 2018, was dictated by Jourdon and reprinted in numerous newspapers. Jourdon Anderson never returned to Big Spring, Tennessee. He passed away in 1907, aged 81, and is buried alongside his wife and eleven children.

Difference Between Grandmothers & Grandfathers (HUMOR)

Repost

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between Grandmothers and Grandfathers?

Well, here it is: There was this loving grandfather who always made a special effort to spend time with his son's family on weekends. Every Saturday morning he would take his 7-year-old granddaughter out for a drive in the car for some quality time -- just him and his granddaughter.

One particular Saturday, however, he had a bad cold and really didn't feel like being up at all. He knew his granddaughter always looked forward to their drives and would be disappointed.

Luckily, his wife came to the rescue and said that she would take their granddaughter for the drive

When they returned, the little girl anxiously ran upstairs to see her grandfather who was still in bed.

"Well, did you enjoy your ride with grandma?" he asked.

"Oh, yes, PapPap, it was really wonderful.

We didn't see a single asshole, blind bastard, dipshit or son of a bitch anywhere we went!"

Almost brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

Ross Perot 1992 - Balancing The Budget

Repost

Yeah I know, probably 90% of the folks won't make it the whole 28 minutes. BUT this is very important to watch given the financial mess this government is in today. If only officials would have used a fraction of his ideas we'd be far better off today. Instead politicians from both parties and pretty much the whole media made him out to be a joke.

I'm certain he would not have made a good president. Especially considering his horrible choice for vice president. HOWEVER. Ross should have most definitely been appointed financial advisor to the president or some such other influential position. Many of his ideas where rock solid when it came to finances. If it weren't for politics being involved no matter which party won they would have benefited from his expertise. We, the American people as well.

Most Americans have the attention span of a gold fish and just as poor a memory. This is why we end up with people voting the way they do. Don't be a goldfish. Watch the video.

America, now more then ever, needs someone with the smarts to lead it they way it should be led. So far I'm not seeing it's ever going to happen with the bunch we have. Honesty, ethics and smarts is not only in short supply it's almost none existent.
