Trump Ignored The 'Pandemic Playbook'

The basic take-away here is...
There's a big difference between a competent administration and one which is not.

Jared Kushner
‘Our Stockpile’ Isn’t Meant For States To Use
"The notion of the federal stockpile was it’s supposed to be our stockpile,” Kushner said. “It’s not supposed to be states’ stockpiles that they then use.”"

  1. No one - seemingly no one - faults Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). His expertise is heralded as being one of the scientific experts, and - in some circles - he is called one of the 'adults in the room.'

That said, on Jan 30 President Trump decided to halt flights from China; a measure his critics said was to distract from his impeachment. And he did this even after consulting with his scientific expert, Dr. Fauci.

So let's see what Dr. Fauci said a few days earlier:

    1. I'm not sure what your inferring, but if he didn't encourage following the "Pandemic Playbook' this should be concerning. No single person has all the answers. Most certainly no one should rely on any single person. This includes Dr. Fauci. Hence why the need for the former pandemic team which was disbanded along with the mistake of recalling our epidemic specialists embedded in China's health ministry.

  2. Yeah well... when even the Annenberg Project says Pres Trump didn't disband the pandemic team, you have to re-evaluate your position. https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/dems-misconstrue-trump-budget-remarks/

    1. According to that link the article was mainly aimed at people misconstruing Trump's remarks. Not about the team itself being disbanded (which it was) by Bolton (hence under the Trump administration).

The Post said this was part of a “reorganization” by Bolton and quoted an NSC spokesman as saying “global health, global health security and biodefense” would be addressed “under the new structure....

...Fauci responded: “I wouldn’t necessarily characterize it as a mistake. I would say we worked very well with that office. It would be nice if the office was still there.”

We take no position on whether it was a mistake or not to eliminate the global health security post or restructure the NSC team.

I encourage you to reread the rather lengthily article.

  3. I apologize for grabbing a less than specific article. How about this:
As the full video makes clear, at no point in this exchange was the National Security Council or the Global Health Security Directorate team mentioned. The President was specifically asked about his proposed budgets, not any personnel reorganization or actions.”

    1. W/O reading it I agree with that. Your other link supported the same. However the fact remains. The pandemic team was disbanded and reassigned after a number of the experienced people left or were left go. This is point I'm trying to make.
