No $'s, But The Show Stills Goes On

The other day I spoke about no matter how broke the leaders say we are, there're still able to make the magic happen. Here's two more prime examples.

EXAMPLE #1
LVIA (ABE)
Currently the Lehigh Valley International Airport's budget is distressed. For one, they still have not figured out a way to come up with $10.4 million to pay for a legal settlement. Despite that dilemma the airport still spent $15 million over the last two years on renovations.

Now comes word that according to WFMZ "Southwest, AirTran cancel service at LVIA"

Sometimes I feel good old common horse sense isn't all too common these days. Then along comes this passenger who said, "The more airlines that pull out of here, the more people are going to refuse to fly out of here. They'll go somewhere else.... Renovations are nice and all that, but what brings people to the airport are flights, not cafes." Could we hire him as a planning consultant for the board at LVIA'?

The way this is going, rather then further renovations, LVIA should invest in building a intercity bus depot inside the terminal. They could collect rents from the bus lines. Passengers could either chose air or ground transportation for their non-stop flights out of Newark or Philly airports. It would not doubt save passengers money and the time it takes to change planes to get where they are going. Something they most likely will end up doing anyway. Continental Airlines doesn't even fly in or out of LVIA. They shuttle their passengers to Newark.

I even have a new logo for the doorway over the main terminal entrance,
Fly & Fuss OR Take The Bus.
You Make the Call.
We Do It All

:-)

EXAMPLE #2
We got word the other day that the Allentown School District could come up short. About $12 million short. Ever the troopers, according to the Express-Times, "Allentown School Board gives thumbs up to new alternative school"

It's a $7.6 million dollar project. ASD only has to go halfies on it with the state (which also says it's broke). Gee that's only a mere $3.75 million more then the $12 million we don't already have. Maybe we can use some more of those magic beans the government seems to be smoking using to make magic happen.

I know I'm uneducated. Somebody "educate" me I am confused. Is it because I'm a product of the ASD. One of the 60% who graduated.

Maybe I slept through the business education course, but when I went to school I was taught digging yourself into a financial hole was a negative thing. Is this what they call investing in education? Junior spends a whole lot of money he doesn't have and hopes a rich uncle will come through in a few years? Help me out here.

One more thing you can help me out with. "The building is expected to hold up to 300 students and 60 teachers and staff." That's one employee for every five students. Wow, is there even an upper crust expensive private school that provides a ratio like that?

:-(
Gee willikers, I have so many darned questions.
Maybe I ought go see the Wiz?
